Roger’s story
‘Roger’ (not his real name!) was trying to open a sachet of sauce using his front teeth. Unfortunately, he caught his tooth at the wrong angle and broke the top edge of his upper left front tooth.
Luckily, the tooth did not hurt. However, it looked less than perfect! He looked for a dentist in Carlow and found Absolute Dental Care! In the past, this tooth may have been treated with a crown, perhaps with pins or a post inserted into the tooth to support it. Nowadays a super result can be expected with building the tooth up with a composite (white) filling. We can expect these to last several years. So this is what we did for Roger:
‘Allen’s’ story
‘Allen’ had a chipped upper  right central incisor for several years. He couldn’t remember how he got it, but didn’t think anything could be done to improve the appearance of the tooth. He had just recently got his teeth whitening done, so dealing with this chipped front tooth would have been a nice finishing touch.
Quite often when faced with this situation, the tooth is ‘filed’ down to give the edge a straight appearance. However, to give the best appearance it is usually best to build up the portion of tooth that has been broken away. So this is what we did for ‘Allen’:
Replacing old white fillings
‘Elizabeth’ came in to see us for an examination. She had two old white fillings that were not degrading around their edges (arrowed) . She hadn’t had a scale and polish to keep her gums healthy for a long time either:
These fillings needed replacing to prevent them from ‘leaking’ any more and thus prevent tooth decay setting in. We were able to replace these fillings (arrowed) and combine this with a thorough scale and polish. This improved the overall appearance and health of her mouth:
And finally…………
Now and again, front teeth can get broken and untreated for several years. If this happens, the fractured tooth can get decayed and look quite unsightly. ‘Andy’ came to see Absolute Dental Care for a full course of dental treatment to ‘fix’ several teeth that had been neglected for a long time. One of the teeth was the upper right central incisors. This had broken several years ago and, because it had not been repaired, had now decayed at the side:
This tooth was decayed under the gum line at the side. We had to remove the decay from under the gum and rebuild the tooth with white filling material:
I hope this series of pictures helps show how white filling materials have come a long way since their first inception. These white fillings have developed to such an extent that, in most cases, they can be used to replace old amalgam (silver) fillings in the back of the mouth also. Do you have any unsightly teeth at the front of your mouth that you have been meaning to get fixed. It is probably easier to get this done than you think. Give us a call and you can discover just how easy this treatment is!
